Stress prompts workers to search for additional San Antonio jobs

A new poll from Monster shows that many employees have left San Antonio jobs due to high stress, among other locations.

About 42% of US respondents have left a job due to an overly stressful environment; workplace stress has also caused an additional 35% to consider changing jobs.

Monster, the worldwide leader in successfully connecting people to job opportunities, asked visitors to their site the question, “Has stress from work ever driven you to a job change?” and received over 6,700 responses. US findings included:

42% of respondents answered “I have purposely changed jobs due to a stressful work environment”
35% of respondents answered “I thought about changing my job because of a stressful work environment”

The survey, which generated over 900 responses, revealed:

The most commonly reported workplace stressors include: supervisor relationship (40%) amount of work (39%) work-life balance (34%) and coworker relationships (31%)
61% of respondents believe that workplace stress has been the cause of an illness
46% of respondents have missed time at work due to work-related stress; 7% report illness so severe it caused hospitalization
84% of respondents claim that their stressful job has impacted their personal lives; 26% report sleepless nights, 24% report depression, 21% report family or relationship issues, and 19% report physical ailments
The most common methods of coping with work-related stress include: talking to a friend/colleague/spouse (55%), exercising (40%), eating (35%), stepping away from work (35%), taking a day off (32%), and drinking after work (24%)
When asked “What does your office do to help alleviate stress in the workplace?” 13% of respondents answered “extra time-off”; 11% answered “ability to work from home”; and 66% answered “nothing.”

Survey looks at nursing jobs in San Antonio

A new survey from Careerbuilder provides a glimpse into nursing jobs in San Antonio, among other locations around the country.

According to the survey, nearly all nursing professionals (93 percent) are satisfied with being a nurse and 85 percent are unlikely to ever switch careers.

While direct patient care takes up 38 percent of a nurses’ time (more than any other function), 41 percent feel they are spending less time on patient care than five years ago / beginning of their career. A majority (52 percent) say there are spending more time on notes and documentation related to patient care than five years ago/ beginning of their career, while a third are spending more time on administrative tasks (33%).

Fifty-seven percent of nurses think technology-based tools help them do their job more effectively; however, 46 percent think technology has made patient care more de-personalized.

Nurses are generally not optimistic about how the Affordable Care Act will affect their work. Forty-seven percent feel the reforms will have a negative effect on the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of patient care and 31 percent think it will have a positive effect. Twenty-three percent anticipate the reforms will have no effect.

About 4 in 10 nurses (43 percent) plan to stay in their current setting – e.g. hospital or ambulatory – for at least 5 years. Home care and skilled nursing professionals are the most likely to be currently looking for a new setting. Ambulatory nurses are the least likely to look for a new setting.

Most nurses (54 percent) who want to move to a new area of nursing want to do so for a better work/life balance. Pay is the second leading factor (43 percent).

Acute care hospitals are seen as the most rewarding nursing setting by 25 percent of nurses. A combination of acute, specialty, and ambulatory follows with 17 percent. Specialty care hospitals are seen as the most rewarding by only 4 percent.

Many nurses appear content with never stepping into a management role. Thirty-seven percent of nurses have not worked in a management role and have no plans to.

Big salary for mobile app developer jobs in San Antonio?

A salary guide from Robert Half points out that mobile app developer jobs in San Antonio and other locales could mean a big salary.

According to the report, employers are prepared to offer increased compensation this year to skilled information technology (IT) and digital professionals who can help organizations meet the following objectives: keep information and networks secure, turn data into business intelligence and seize new opportunities in the mobile space.

Following are six roles that are among those expected to see the most substantial increases in average starting compensation in 2014, according to the Robert Half Salary Guides*:

Mobile applications developer: As companies expand their mobile initiatives to connect with consumers anytime, anywhere, they need professionals who can develop for smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. Experienced mobile applications developers can expect to see the largest increase (7.8 percent) in starting compensation of any tech position listed in this year’s Salary Guide, with salaries ranging from $100,000 to $144,000.
Business intelligence analyst: Organizations of all types want to derive more value from the data they generate, collect and store by turning it into actionable intelligence. Skilled business intelligence analysts can anticipate a 7.4 percent boost in starting compensation in 2014, with salaries ranging from $101,250 to $142,250.
Information systems security manager: Keeping data secure and protecting users and the network from cyber threats is a priority for any modern business. Information systems security managers who can assess and remediate vulnerabilities, threats and intrusions are in demand, and are projected to see a 6.8 percent bump in base compensation this year, with average starting salaries between $115,250 and $160,000.
User experience designer: Designing engaging user experiences is essential to the success of any mobile or web initiative — and requires specialized talent. User experience designers can expect to see average starting salaries between $78,000 and $120,000, up 7.5 percent from 2013.
Mobile designer: Compelling content and functionality are vital to delivering a satisfying interactive mobile experience. Skilled mobile designers can anticipate average starting salaries to increase 6.3 percent in 2014, to the range of $66,000 to $103,000.
User experience specialist: Developing innovative, interactive user experiences for web and mobile applications requires creativity and technical expertise. User experience specialists can expect to receive base compensation in the range of $79,000 to $118,000, a gain of 5.9 percent over last year.
